Kenya - Update
| Mr Sid (Christian) and I returned safely from our visit to Kenya, East Africa. We visited the Tumaini school and children’s home in a village near Likoni, Mombassa. The charity supporting the scheme is Education for Life and Christian first heard about it whilst doing his Duke of Edinburgh award. It was an amazing experience meeting the children, teachers and staff and doing what we could to help during the week we were there. We took with us the fantastic amount of £785 which will be enough to provide a water pump for the community. Thank you so much for all your donations which made the setting up of the pump possible. Incredibly 750 children receive a meal of rice and beans or boiled eggs on the school compound every day. Any small amounts over are offered to villagers waiting at the gates. The next project the charity is planning to undertake is to build a ‘halfway house’ for the older orphans. We shall carry on selling small cakes for our children to take home and hope you will continue to support our efforts, as Christian and I are hoping to go back next year to help with the project. We took lots of photographs while we were there which will be on our website soon. We have a few of the photos on the Kenya wall – the story of Handa – which some of the children have already been able to look at. If possible I should like to ‘twin’ our nursery with the nursery class in Tumaini. We will keep you posted. And thank you. Miss Pauline |
